ELS-XCOLUMN

Extreme Loading for Structures®-XCOLUMN (ELS–XCOLUMN) is the first software application customized for both progressive collapse and implosion simulation. Whether the goal is to protect the structure or demolish it, ELS-XCOLUMN's graphical simulation and comprehensive analysis will provide all of the necessary data.

ELS-XCOLUMN surpasses the limitations of current methods by accurately analyzing the consequences resulting from the removal of a column (or any other structural component) in a graphical output, providing the ideal solution for identifying design vulnerabilities and optimizing implosion scenarios.

Analysis

ELS–XCOLUMN is designed to analyze and simulate structural behavior resulting from extreme loadings caused by the sequential removal of groups of structural elements. The main analyses which can be completed with ELS–XCOLUMN include:

Progressive Collapse Analysis
This provides the ability to test the vulnerability of a structure as it is being subjected to progressive collapse by examining different scenarios in real-time. Configure different components of a model to be removed and observe as designs subjected to unforeseen or unpredicted external events crumble to the ground.

Demolition
Prepare and simulate numerous implosion scenarios helping to identify the best approach to take. Set the time sequence for selected elements to be removed and observe as the building falls to the ground in real-time. ELS's collapse analysis solver can calculate a near-real simulation of how a building reacts to column removal (or any other group of structural elements) in a time sequence as well as predict the resulting debris on surrounding structures.

Static Analysis
Static analysis includes linear and nonlinear analysis combined with the ability to auto-detect crack initiation and propagation thus aiding in the highlighting of the weak points in a structure. Static analysis can compute a structural response resulting from pre-existing conditions such as lumped masses, own weight, displacement loads, and monotonic and cyclic loads.
